Whenever someone thinks about moving to a big Canadian city, two of the top choices always tend to be Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec. Whether it's some data encryption analyst in Port Perry or a freelance journalist from Nova Scotia, they will most likely have Montreal and Toronto at the top of their lists. It can be hard to choose where to move to. Each city has their advantages. There are plenty of sources to go to for information about which city might be best.

You could ask your videographer Toronto friend or your ex-boss who now works in Montreal for advice but they will probably be biased to their current hometowns. That's where we come in. While this site might be dedicated to all things Montreal, we have no problem doling out praise to other cities. Especially if they're worthy of such praise. There are many things both Toronto and Montreal offer people. It's up to you to decide which features are more important to you.

For instance, if you're in the financial industry and are looking to make a name for yourself, then Toronto is the place to be. Toronto is home to the world renown Bay Street. It's often referenced as the centre of Toronto's financial district and mostly referred to as the heart of the Canadian financial industry. You'll find plenty of Canadian businessmen or Toronto investment real estate brokers roaming Bay Street. The funny thing is that Montreal's St. James street used to be known as the Canadian "Wall Street." Not so anymore. That's just one advantage Toronto has over Montreal.

To combat the business friendly nature of Toronto, Montreal is more of a city inhabited by passionate people. Whether it's musicians, painters or writers, plenty of artistic people tend to flock to Montreal. People seem to have a laissez-faire type of attitude in Montreal. Living in Montreal is a whole lot of fun. You won't find yourself at too many black tie events in Montreal compared to the plenty of business dinner functions many catering companies in Toronto find themselves working.

Of course in the end, it'll come down to personal preference. They are both major cities with big populations. One city isn't more homely than the other. You definitely won't get a small town vibe from either as each city has the hustle and bustle big town feel. Each city provides the same basic services needed to live. Both are home to popular dance halls, movie theatres and exotic dining establishments. Sometimes it just comes down to what type of structure you want to live in. Toronto offers trendy downtown Toronto condos while Montreal can match up with the cultural and artistic condos located in The Plateau. In the end, it might be best to visit both cities and feel them out. It'll be a lot easier to choose one place over the other if you take in each city's distinct flavour.
